CHOOSING SOFTWARE / A PRACTICAL GUIDE

Can a free app replace paid contractor software?

Yes, if your needs are job tracking, time and expenses, estimates and invoices. FieldSoli covers those everyday tasks for independent contractors and handymen, with unlimited invoices and estimates and no required subscription. A larger field service system may be a better fit when you need scheduling, crew dispatch or payment processing.

Compare the tasks you actually need

A monthly price does not tell you whether an app fits your work. Compare what happens on an ordinary job: recording the visits, keeping the costs, preparing an estimate and sending the invoice.

FieldSoli’s core-task coverage
Your taskWhat FieldSoli provides free
Keep a job recordJob details, notes, repeat visits and searchable history.
Track time and costsA visit timer, time added afterward, materials and other expenses.
Prepare estimates and invoicesCreate and share documents with no monthly invoice or estimate limit.
Record whether a job is paidRecorded payment status. Customer payment processing is not included.
Take useful records outCSV job-summary export without an active subscription. This is a summary, not a full account backup.

If those are the tasks you use a paid app for, FieldSoli gives you a free way to do them. Compare this checklist with your own workflow.

See the actual app screens, or read the free invoices and estimates guide for document limits, sharing and payment status.

When a larger tool helps

FieldSoli is a focused option for an independent contractor or handyman keeping their own job records. It can replace a paid tool for the basic tasks above when those are the tasks you need.

If your decision depends on crew dispatch, scheduling, routing, accounting or collecting customer payments, compare products that provide those features. FieldSoli does not currently provide them. It also does not automatically import jobs from Angi, Thumbtack or other marketplaces; add those jobs manually.

Compare the plan you would actually use, not just a product’s free-download label. Check document caps, export access, the features you need and the total ongoing price. Other free products may also suit your work.

How to evaluate an app with few reviews

FieldSoli is new, and public feedback is still building. A small review history gives you less independent evidence about long-term use. Screenshots and feature descriptions help you check fit, but they do not replace your own evaluation or customer reviews.

  1. Create a sample job with realistic details that are safe to use for testing.
  2. Record a visit, time, materials and another expense. Check the saved amounts and job history.
  3. Create an estimate and invoice, inspect the preview, and try sharing to yourself.
  4. Try a CSV job-summary export and inspect what it includes before depending on it for your records.
  5. Check the current store listing’s reviews and updates, and contact support with any questions before moving your regular workflow.

A new app with a straightforward idea

We want small independent businesses to have useful tools for everyday work without a monthly software bill. That is why FieldSoli includes core job tracking and unlimited estimates and invoices free.

The choice is about fit: if you need a simple place to keep your jobs, time, costs and invoices, try FieldSoli on one job. If you need a broader operating system for a crew, choose a tool with that scope. Current free access does not promise that every future feature will be free.
